has made her one of the most promising and exciting young artists today.

Biography

Ailyn Pérez is rapidly emerging as a gifted singing actress in prominent opera houses and concert halls around the world!

This 2007-2008 season, she joins the roster of the Metropolitan Opera for Le nozze di Figaro and Hansel und Gretel, and makes her debut at Michigan Opera Theater in the role of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro.

Her first week in the New Year was spent in London, performing with tenor Stephen Costello in the Rosenblatt Recital Series and in a spot with the BBC's program, "In Tune," hosted by Sean Rafferty.

In February, Maestro Plácido Domingo extended an invitation to Miss Pérez to perform with him on his World Tour. They performed arias and duets from opera, operetta, zarzuela, musical theater, and latin jazz repertoire, at the Kremlin Palace Theater and at the Pearl-Qatar. Most noteably on the program, she sang the love duet from Otello with Maestro Domingo, which was a great honor!

In March, she was the soprano soloist performing Schubert's Mass No. 5 with the Netherlands Philharmonic which was broadcast and archived on Dutch Public Radio.

In April,  Ailyn toured Japan singing the role of Contessa Almaviva with The Salzburg Festival. 

In May and June, she returned to Opera Theatre of St. Louis for her first interpretation of the four heroines (Olympia, Antonia, Giulietta, and Stella) in The Tales of Hoffmann with conducted by Maestro Stephen Lord.

Her season will close with an exciting debut in The Salzburg Festival performing the role of Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, opposite Rolando Villazón on August 18th and 22nd.

a debut of Violetta in La traviata with Florida Grand Opera, Adina in L’elisir d’amore with Michigan Opera Theater, Leila in Les Pecheurs de Perles with the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile, Marguerite in Faust with San Diego Opera, and Contessa Almaviva with Opera Carolina, and Marzelline in Fidelio and  Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with Opera Company of Philadelphia.

Past Engagements

After winning the Jr. Division of the Palm Beach Opera competition in 2002, she was invited by the late Maestro Guadagno, to sing Zerlina in Don Giovanni, and Soeur Constance in Les dialogues des Carmelites.

In 2005, she sang her first Gilda in Rigoletto with Opera Delaware.  She  also sang the role of Anne Trulove in The Rake’s Progress with the Merola Opera Program in summer of 2005. 

At Wolf Trap Opera 2006, Miss Pérez was heard in the role of Juliette in Roméo et Juliette and the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro with the National Symphony Orchestra, and performed on Stephen Blier's Spanish Treasure Recital.

Education
Ailyn Pérez
studies voice with Maestro Bill Schuman.  She is an alumna of The Academy of Vocal Arts, (AD, 2006) where she learned and performed the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Suzel in L’amico Fritz, Mimì in La bohème, Anna in Le villi and Gilda in Rigoletto.

She is also an alumna of Indiana University (BM, 2001.)

Miss Perez also studied German at Middlebury College (2000) and Italian with the EPCASO program (2002.)

Awards

Ailyn Pérez has garnered awards for both operatic and recital performances. 

She is a 2007 winner of the Shoshana Foundation Career Grant.In 2006, she was awarded a Schwabacher Debut Recital,  won Second Prize in the  Operalia Competition in Valencia, Spain, and won the George London Award named in honor of Leonie Rysanek from the George London Foundation Competition.

In 2005, she placed second at the Loren L. Zachary Competition, received an encouragement award from Opera Index and was awarded second place from the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation in 2004.
